If I make it a 2004, the checksums work: SALTP19474A829984
Is it Silver? that VIN is for a Zambezi silver D2.

Do you mean Zambezi in Zambia? Will I be able to get useful historical information from a VIN lookup on that?

I've always used car fax, in fact whenever I buy a truck I tell the seller to provide me with one. Don't request it, demand it politely. Once you have it in hand contact car fax and verify all the info. (gotta be careful these days) If you think there's something shady going on act on it. Trust your gut, heck if you wanted, do a background check on the seller, might be overkill but it beats getting screwed over.

It IS silver! I'll have the dude take a photo of it from the car itself to be sure. From the pictures, it does look like a 2004 D2 (head lamps are especially swanky) but I'll wait till I see the picture.

Be careful as all the world over some are stolen and resprayed and some are 'write off' damaged and repaired. Best check it out carefully and if in doubt just pass on it.
The year of manufacture is usually on a plate under the hood and is often the year prior to registration.
