Default Drive Shaft Grease

RAVE says to use the following for general greasing. Is it what to use on the u-joints?

Multipurpose Lithium Base Grease N.L.G.I. consistency No. 2.

Thanks,
Dave

Yeah, NLGI #2 works fine for u-joints.
Everyone has their own preference for what brand/type. I use Castrol Pyroplex Blue:

And grease your u-joints 2 times a year and the slip shaft on each drive shaft once a year.
Have you already had your front drive shaft joints replaced to prevent failing?

Thanks, Mike. Yes, I have had them replaced. I only put about 8-10K a year on the vehicle, but change the oil every few months, regardless of mileage. I want to get into the habit of lubricating the u-joints myself, as well as this summer when I am in the eastern Sierra and Nevada.

Thanks,
Dave

The service interval for u-joints under normal use is every 5,000 miles or 3 months.

Yes, that sounds about right. I just had the shafts rebuilt and want to start doing the service myself. I run synthetic oil, so may let it go a little longer than 3 months between changes, but want to be diligent about the u-joints.

How should I go about putting on the grease? Take off the front right wheel? Or just climb under and rub it on.
