Drive Shaft Reccomendationss
Listen this is for all those people who ignore the draft shaft warnings on this forum. If your Discover is making a loud squealing sound or chirping sound (angry sparrows) while it is moving and stressing a little. Stop the Discovery crawl underneath check your drive shaft. Specifically the front drive shaft and on the front drive shaft check the double u joint (double cardon) toward the rear, or going into the transfer case. If it the joint seems loose, you need to fix or have it right away.
So Thursday, while driving to bring my daughter home for the weekend, from college, I decided to take the Discovery II out and air the old girl out. It is 65 miles each way and she like running a little, get ride of the carbon.
My youngest daughter uses this Discovery to go to and from school and I get to play with her on the weekends. So on the trip I started to notice a nasty squeal or chirping while the Disco was moving and under load. My Spidy sense said I think that is the frigging drive shaft. I finished my trip and parked her. Today, I decided to drop the shaft and check it out.
I dropped the shaft and my impact wrench on my head (a lot of blood) and put her on the bench. Yep she was messed up, the double cardon joint a really bad u joint I pulled it and I'm not happy with yolk where the spider cap sits on the old bad joint.
None the less I've decided after tearing down the old drive shaft that I need to bite the bullet and buy a new drive front drive shaft. Of coarse yesterday, I did a brake job on my wife's car and then bought her new tires to make sure she is ready for winter. So as always I want spend my money wisely and not get "shafted" by the price
Thus, whose should I buy? Or should I take the old OEM one and have a drive shaft shop rebuild it.
My choices are
Britsh Parts from Utah -
NEW Heavy Duty Front Driveshaft Propeller (Generation II) for Land Rover Discovery Series on Sale $350.00
Ebay - Price $250.00
Land Rover Front Drive Shaft Driveshaft Discovery 2 II 99 04 TVB000110 New | eBay

Take a look at how bad the ends of this U Joint are. It is amazing the dang that didn't have a complete failure on me.
119,000 miles I've had it for 2,000, new water pump, new serpentine belt, New brakes, New tires, New MAF, New Fluids, Cleaned Fuel System, New Plugs, New Brake Fluid, New Shuttle Valves, New Power Steering Fluid. I love this thing it runs great. Well Until I get the drive shaft done it doesn't run at all.

Coil Sprung Driveshafts
Bill and his crew have been building shafts for decades. IMHO by far the best available.
I have been running the Heavy duty for close to 2 years with out a hitch.

thank you for the recommendations.
I love how every needs to state you got lucky, heck I am happy I caught it, sad I have to spend money to replace it. dizzy from splitting open my forehead with my impact wrench taking the SOB off.
But the Bears beat the Ravens, so all in all not a bad day
