Default Drove through a river today...

Alright so, I drove through a river today, it was about 15 inches deep, and not flowing very fast. The disco got through fine but when I pulled out and started up the hill it cut off and the battery light came on. I popped the hood and checked everything and saw that it looked fine, no water water in the battery area, ect. So I let it sit for a few min. and got back in a started it fine and just drove off. Is this normal? Obviously it doesn't seem like it should happen, and it wasn't even that deep.

Is there anything I need to do before I drive through that to ensure that doesn't happen again. It was a bit of a scare, seeing as how I don't know how I would explain to a tow truck where I was and how he was going to get me. Thank goodness the rover marched on!!! Any help is appreciated!

ith my 3" lift and running 265/75/16 tires, I can handle 36"s of water with no problem. There is no reason for the engine to have stalled, especially on a D2, they handle water better the the D1's did.

hmmmm thats strange... Like I said, it drove off fine once it got started. Is there anything at all that might have casued it? the truck didnt even hesitate in the water but as soon as I hit the dry land and went up the hill it stalled. I cant think of anything I did wrong... The oil is low and its about to be changed this week, but that should even be a cause. Oh well, maybe it was just a first time thing. I'll bring another truck with me before I do it again.

I am willing to bet that your belt was wet thus causing the battery light and coming out of the water and then heading uphill anywater that was in your filter box got sucked into the engine causing it to cut out.
15" isint very deep but if you drive to fast it will splash everywhere.

Yup, I bet thats it. There was one spot that the water splashed up at, and from your description that probably the source of the problem. Thanks man, that makes me feel better knowing that what it might be.

I swear I remember reading a post a few months ago where somebody had the exact same problem. It happened just like you described. See if you can do a search.

That does sounds similar, luckily mine didnt throw a code. This was the first time it has ever driven through water, and there was no mud as far as I could tell, the water was clean and the bottom was river rocks. Who knows, i'm bringing it to the shop this week and I'll add that onto the list of things to check over.

Dielectric grease on all connection will stop most of the
water problems.

I think I have used about 12oz's on every plug over the years.

Can you buy that at a local auto parts store like advanced or autozone? And what are the main connections you recommend doing?
