Default E-85

OK, here is a math question for you math guru's and engineers out there. This has nothing to do about combatabillity. Just numbers.

Premiumgas is$3.40 pergallon and E-85 is $2.90 per gallon.
Assuming that a person goes through 20 gallons of fuel per week and taking in account that E-85 is 15% less MPG.
And assuming that said person gets 15 MPG using premium.
What would the cost/savings be comparing the two over a 5 week period?

If you would have listened to all the advertisements, you would have heard it can only be used in vehicles built to handle it,
Our trucks need more then 15% gas and 85% corn juice to run on.
Work on improving your mileage. What mileage are you getting and on what octane?

This is just a #'s question Mike.
I get 14 around town and 22 on the freeway. I use Formula Shell. I buy my gas on Tuesdays because my gas station has Super Tuesday's. Save $.06 per gallon if you buy premium on Tuesday. So I buy gas on Tuesday.
I run E-85 in my Camry and it runs just fine. I've ran it in my Disco 1 and it ran just fine.
My question is just a numbers question, nothing more.
I have done extensive research on E-85 and it will run in any gas engine, it is just how well the fuel system can handle it and if the ECU is set up to compinsate for the lack of power by advancing or retarding the timing and the O2 sensors telling the ECU that the engine in running to lean because there is less CO2 in the exhaust.

Assuming you were driving a vehicle manufactured to burn, deliver, and store 15% Ethanol it would cost you $1.19 more to burn E85 over the 5 week period traveling the same 1500 miles. Reason is you will buy 117.65 gallons of E85 at 12.75 MPG.

E85 is 15% Ethanol, not 85%, and it is hydroscopic and can phase separate. In your example it is both cheaper and safer to stay with 10% Ethanol.

E85 is 85% Ethanol with 15% gas.
Its not hard to find out.

In my Disco owners manual its said up to 10% ethanol no more.
Very bad for seals dries them out.

The bad part with 10% ethanol my combined mpg is 15%
less with less HP.

We need to keep the food on the table not in the fuel tank.

Well it is obvious that there has not been much research done on the use of E85. Even the Auto manufactures tell you not to run it in any vehicle not specifically designed to burn it.
Go read the label, 15% gas. You will, as already mentioned, take out injector seals, and valve guides. I believe even the 02 sensors have to be able to handle it or they won't hold up.
Just remember when your vehicle start acting up, you will pay the price, then see how much you have saved.

I stand corrected, E85 is 85% Ethanol. I'm not sure how I got that confused. Funny how you can be so positive you are correct on an issue, you don't even pause to check your facts, and then before you know it, you're buying the beer.

Just wanted to point out that my gas gauge messed up a couple of times while on the road. Only happened out of town on the way to Chicago. My local gas station gave a press release recently stating it was going to start carrying 10% Ethanol. I got gas the next Monday and my gauge acted up again. Sucks because it now flops all over at random times. I switched to a station that doesn't run Ethanol. I pay more, but the gauge is perfect and my mileage is back where it should be. Works out in the end, and I don't have to replace the pump yet.

If you run E-85 in a rover, you will be replacing things. They aren't built for it.
