Default Electrical issues - with a new sound

Developed some sudden electrical issues yesterday when my mirror compass went dark, a Garmin plugged into the cigar lighter stopped functioning and the garage door button failed to work. Suspecting, or hoping for, a fuse problem, I found nothing of note on the under dash board. When I lifted the cover on the board under the hood I heard a steady ticking sound, like an electric clock, or a relay continuously cycling. I haven’t had time to go any further with the problem, but spent about an hour with the RAVE electrical book and found nothing so far. I thought someone here might have a clue as to what’s going on.

Any advise will be appreciated.

Finally found time to chase my electrical gremlin and found that a bad fuse was the problem, but I still can't explain the ticking noise coming from the under-hood fuse box.
