I used whatever degreaser was on sale....wiped everthing clean with a several rags...then sprayed everything but the alternater...then the big finish is get you a can of corrosion block....they sell it mostly at marine/boat stores.....a tip from a mercedes/land rover detail guy....it makes everything look brand new and protects all electronics from corrosion the stuff is unbelievable!!!! my truck looks brand new....

corrosion block is a blue foam.....the can is tall chrome with blue and green lettering....about 18.00 bucks.....not cheap but worth every penny I sprayed the under neath components also....

I highly recommend you don't use that engine dressing. Dealers and shops over the years have stated how they hate that crap.
Do your self a favor, don't recommend this to any friends and if you want to keep your engine clea, like mine, just power was it once in awhile.
Also, clean the alternator too, too must dust a dirst can cause early ware.

Do the enviroment a favor and whenever you clean/degrease the engine, diffs, etc do it at a DIY car wash.
They have oil/water seperators and the oil and grease from the truck will be recylced and not go into the ground water or river.
One quart of oil ruins 1 million gallons of water, and according to the news you guys out west wont have any water buy June.
And no you cant have any of our water.

95 Disco I w/ 155k on the clock. Mike said earlier that its fine to hit the alternator with the power wash, what about the distributor? I know most of you guys have a coil pack but I was curious as to the distrib. I got the new alternator and distributor in to complement the new plugs and wires and the old girl is running like it never has since I have owned her for the last 55k. I just don't want to foul anything up since she is finally up and going again.

On D1's, stay away from the distributo and your ECU.

Cover the distribitor with a plastic sandwhich bag or plastic store bag, you can use a zip tie at the base of the bag to keep it from coming off or water from getting under it, does not need to be really tight at the bottom,, just enough to keep it (the bag) from coming off.

Dumb question time...Where is the ecu on a Disco I? By the time I find out where everything is located and the purpose each serves this Rover will probably have 300k on her! Thanks for the help, I'd like to clean her up real nice.
