I have a 1995 Discovery with all sorts of exhaust issues.

I have read different opinions on decating the car, some say the car requires backpressure?

I cannot afford new cats, so this is probably my only option... environmental problems aside... will decating my land rover cause any engine issues, They are clogged, and my idle is bad, and one rattles extremely loud.

 

Yes removing the cats will cause major run issues.
The ECU needs readings from the o2 sensors and if it is not getting any readings or if they are way off you will have major issues.

Go to a junk yard and get ones from there. Any muffler shop can weld them in for you.

 

How much would I be looking at if I took the entire exhaust and the right (passenger side) manifold

What do you mean? If you removed the whole exhaust and had them fix it off the truck?

 

My exhaust is leaking before the cats right now (repairable)

My passenger side manifold has a large crack (not repairable)

My cats rattle, and are clogged (not repairable)

My muffler has a crack where the pipe connects to it (repairable)

So I figured if I was gonna pull just cats I might as well get all I actually need... I can remove my old and install the new, no welding however

Just wondering how much it might cost to get the exhaust from a junkyard

 

Your manifold is repairable, they can weld that shut.
To have your "new" cats welded in is around $50.
I have no idea how much they are at a junk yard. You dont have to use LR ones, just make sure that you get the correct pipe diameter and length.

Have you looked on e-bay for new cats? I have heard that they can be had for pretty cheap.
Any year of a DI will work.

You might also want to go by a local muffler shop, they can do it all for pretty cheap including the manifold repair.

 

I'll check by a muffler shop first...

everyone tells me to dump the land rover... it's too expensive, but I keep getting deeper

I've redone most of the electrical (that is my specialty)
replaced radiator (who thought it was a good idea to put oil + tranny fluid through it )
replaced all vacuum hoses
fixed window ECU
added ipod jack to radio
replaced maf
replaced most fluids (everything but diff fluids)


And as we speak the land rover has a busted brake hose that I have to order from the UK (front left outer)

I also want to get 4WD Low / Diff locks working (I think solenoid is keeping 4WD low from working, and I have to keep trying to unfreeze diff lock lever)


the only thing keeping me going is the land rover love, and the fact that I know more issues will always arise so fix ASAP
