2003 discovery , i had a small exhaust leak right before what i think is the resonator (check pictures). It’s where the y pipe meats the resonator , I tried tightening the bolts and it still leaks, do I need a gasket to put here if so any idea what the part number might be? Thank you
That's the muffler and if memory serves me right...no gasket. Just wire brush the whole area clean and try reassembling. Some of the auto parts stores sell a exhaust paste that can be applied on the surfaces, which helps fill defects and hardens after assembly.
This connection has no gasket. I cleaned the mating surfaces with scotch-brite and fine sand paper. It revealed a bump on the flare of the Y pipe, what looked like a manufacturing issue. I sanded it down to make it even. Assembled it and tightened the nuts and the leak was gone essentially.
