More like a fusable link, block cracks when overheated to make sure you dont damage your tires by driving it too much!

Cool.
Examine the head gaskets.
Look for the little crack on the end toward the coolant jacket.
Has to be there.

Looked for cracks in the HG, did not find anything. Made up the stuff to pressure test the block the other night. Took it up to 50psi, no leaks around the sleeves but that was with the motor cold. Its hard to duplicate the temps when driving! The thing that made me think it was the block was how #5 cyl looks. Any thoughts?

Thinking it may be time to try one of the block sealers. If they work when the motor is hot, how do you keep the engine from overheating while you circulate it?

great job on the engine block test fixture.
You are quite good as a machinist.

Time to compare the cylinder liner for #5 at the top to the the other liners.

I am trying to think of a way that antifreeze would have entered via a bad valley gasket.

Antifreeze leaking from the coolant jacket and then running down the top of the valley gasket and then getting sucked in by the intake of #5 which is leaking and suction pulls it in. Doubtful and my imagination.

This video shows #5 leaking. Ouch

I’ve spent some time thinking about it and I know there are going to be some comments against it but... I think it may be time to try one of the block sealers.

I'm planning on the ARP head stud kit, top end gasket kit, and running one of the block sealers. I'll bypass the heater core and put my old radiator back in for the treatment.

I'm looking for suggestions for what sealers people have had luck with.

Also anyone have a used stud kit or extra head gasket kit they would like to part with?

Thanks!

Just get Victor Rheinz HG's new.

No need for taking a risk on dodgy spares.

Thanks, that's the direction I was leaning in but if someone has some laying around I'd be happy to buy them.

Default Can anyone ID what a treated/sealed block looks like?

So I'm starting to put everything back together and I noticed some white coating on the coolant passage in the heads. Now I'm wondering if this block has already been treated to one of the ceramic block sealers???

Can anyone tell by the photos if this engine may have been treated before?
First one is looking down the water pump passage, second one is one of the ports in the head.

looks like some poured a lot of BARR'S or AlumAseal Radiator Sealer in there.

pinkytoe69,
has had good luck with sealing his engine up, but he was matriculates with his treatment by properly prepping his block first.
