Default Factory Radio Specs

I've got to replace the speakers in my '01 D2. I'd like to get a pair that can adequately handle the factory head unit's power output. Does anyone know what that is though?

While I'm at it does anyone have any speaker brand recommendations? It's been high school since I looked at car audio.

Do you have a subwoofer on the rear door

You can upgrade it with any speakers you want as long as you have the right diameter and connect the proper polarity. You might end up cutting the original factory connector and use a regular connector instead.

Default Me Too.....

I'm in the process of replacing my sound system too. I picked up the below Nakamichi speakers off Amazon.

The fronts are;
Amazon Amazon

The tweeter will be housed in an insert I made to slip inside the upper door speaker housing. I did find that the bottom speaker is just a bit larger than the factory LR speaker. I just cut some pie slots, about 1/4" long, around the inside of the speaker hole and bent them inwards until the speaker sits flush. I am adding some sound deadening as well.

The rear door speakers are these. I'm not sure if I'll have to mod the rear door panel yet to get them to fit.
Amazon Amazon

I still have to pick out an amp to go along with these speakers. I'm thinking a 150-200 watt two channel.

I have not upgraded speakers yet but also on my list.. One thing I did do is upgrade the amp first so I could add a 12" sub in the rear... I had a JL Audio 300 watt 3 channel amp installed under the passenger seat, that powers the two front speakers and the sub.

The two factory front speakers sound 1000 times better with a new amp than with the old, which is why I've delayed buying new speakers.

The rear door speakers are subs only in my case as I have a base model system.

Call Crutchfield, they'll tell you everything you need to know. They have good prices too.

Well I was hoping someone new factory power output?

I've been looking on Crutchfield and their cheaper speakers can only handle 30W RMS, but then they also have speakers that handle 60-100W RMS power. Crutchfield seems to just make recommendations based on fit.

I don't really want to fiddle with any amp or head unit replacement, I just want to make sure I pick out some speakers that can handle the power output of the factory headunit/amp. I'm not even sure if my factory system has a separate amp?

If you have an amp, it will be mounted to the top of the transmission control unit under the drivers seat.
As far as the output of the head unit. I suspect that it puts out less than the max the speaker can handle. Here is a copy, edit and paste from the RAVE showing what each speaker is rated for;

Some vehicles will not have all the speakers, the type and location of speakers fitted depends on the trim level...

The A-post speakers are located in the A-post trim on each side of the windscreen, and are each protected by a metal grille. The A-post speakers are a high range type and have a power rating of:

Mid line system A-post speakers have a power rating of 15 watts and an impedance of 4 Ω.
High line system A-post speakers have a power rating of 30 watts and an impedance of 4 Ω.

The upper door speakers are located in the upper door trim, The upper door speaker is a mid-range type and has a power rating of 30 watts and an impedance of 4 Ω.

The type of lower front door speakers fitted depends on trim level and market:

The base and mid line systems are fitted with full-range door speakers with a power rating of 15 watts and an impedance of 4 Ω
The high line system is fitted with a low-range door speaker with a power rating of 30 watts and an impedance of 4 Ω.

The type of lower rear door speaker fitted depends on trim level and market:

The base and mid line systems are fitted with full-range door speakers with a power rating of 15 watts and an impedance of 4 Ω
The high line system is fitted with a low-range door speaker with a power rating of 30 watts and an impedance of 4 Ω.

The low range tail door speakers have a power rating of 30 watts and has an impedance of 4 Ω.

Thanks Davis, that's exactly what I was looking for. Where in the RAVE did you find it? I hate asking questions when I have the resources available myself.
