Default Factory Sub replacements

Just FYI....

I just spent a weekend fixing some needed items on the 98 Disco I recently purchased.

One was the fact subwoofers were destroyed. I tried a search on this site and countless others to find wiring info. Anyway, I took a shot at it and worked! Evidently the fact subs are wired as dual 2 ohm? I am sure I may be corrected on this. Anyway, I spent some time checking resitance and freq through the system. I wired in a pair of older 4 ohm Fosgate's that were removed from a previous project. I soldered the pairs together and then to the speakers. Well it works for now anyway. The sound is great when using the CD changer. The tuner is a POS IMO.

Has anyone else done this? Have any long term effects? I imagine the sub driver will give out shortly if what I did is making the amp unhappy.

Later.

Oh, BTW why is the reception on the tuners so crapy? Or is mine goofy?

Sounds like the solution you came up with works. I do know that the ohm readings have to be the same. That comes under general mechanic info. You solution is one that i will keep in mine. The tuner thing sounds like another. check and clean connections, especially the ground connections. had same type problem with another vehicle. It fixed the problem. If that is not it, I found a full stero on e-bay.com the search i used was the general parts and just listed land rover. It may help to get it quicker to specify radio.
Hope it helps. gotta love a rover. duboff.

If you haven't found out already, take a look at your cargo area windows Double check the connectors, that might be the problem.

Did somewhat of the same thing, instead i just disconnted the factory subs, taped into the sub harness and hooked up the high/low signal converter so i can hook up and aftermarket amp and subs. The subs are AudioBand 300wRMS, the Amp is a Jensen 1000w/ 350w X2 RMS, and a 1.5 farad capasitor, proabably more than you wanted but just what i wanted.
