fault codes P1668, P0442, and P1590
Hi,
I just bought a 2002 Land Rover Discovery Series II SD last month. About a week ago, I started getting the dreaded tres amigos ABS/HDC/TC lights. 2 days ago,I started getting the "Service Engine Soon" amber light as well.
As suggested in some other posts, I brought my truck to Autozone for the fault codes, and they came up with P1668, P0442, and P1590. Anybody know how bad these codes mean for my truck?
Before going to the dealer to have it further checked, would anyone know offhand if I can *safely* continue driving the vehicle and simply have the codes reset? Or am I risking too much at this point and I need to have it towed to the dealer right away? As far as I can tell, my truck works perfectly okay, but I really get uncomfortable driving with 4 amber lights on.
Thanks,
Melody

Yes, you can safeley drive it.
If you throw a panic stop, do you feel the ABS pulsate thru the brake pedal? Do your brakes squeak?
The 1590 code is ABS related but the real codes will need to be pulled with a better scanner.
The 442 code is an evap leak, possible loos gas cap.
The 1668 I can't find.

Hi Mike!
Thanks for the fast response. Yes, I can feel the ABS working on a panic stop, and I don't notice any squeaking sound.
A friend suggested that I buy a high end scanner (around $300, Autozone or Amazon) to better diagnose the problem and clear the codes (to save me a trip from the dealer or shop).Do you think it's worth it?
Regards,
Melody

No is is not worth it, you will not use the scanner enough to recoup your cost. Most dealers will scan codes for one hours labor, $65-$75 per hour.
To get a scanner that is capaible of reading SRS, ABS or SLS code, you will have to spend $2000 for the scanner and proper software.
Chances are since you can feel the ABS working you have one of the minor fault codes, usually a speed sensor. Find a small shop that can read and clear the codes, usually they won't come back, if they do then go for the part indicated by the code.

A basic $30 scanner is all the average person needs. AutoZone will read your codes for free, so in my mind no need to buy a scanner.
And sorry, I do not know what those codes mean.
