Default Flush brake system??

Replacig the master cylinder this weekend.
Read somewhere (perhaps here?) that this is a good time to flush the brake lines and systemwith alcohol to clean the system out... and then ad all new brake fluid.

Is this correct? If so what is the procedure? How do I make sure all the alcohol is out of the system? Bleed until all runs out a nice rosey red?

94 disco w/ABS about 101K

thanks in advance!

DO NOT PUT ALCOHOL in your braking system use only brake fluid for
flushing out the old brake fluid.

Ditto!! The alchohol will eat your rubber seals, the only way to flush old brake fluid out is with new brake fluid.
And yes, you need to do this every two years.

Buy 2 quarts of DOT 4 and bleed each wheel till the fluid comes out clean starting at the r/r then the l/r r/f then l/f

Thanks Mike and others.

Replaced the Master Cylinder today... and bled out all 4 calipers in the order posted. The rears threw out some yucky mucky brown liquid. Bled them until the liquid was clear. Did the same to the front. The front brake fluid bled out much larger amounts when my son pumped the brakes. Yes I used a hose into a jar that contained brake fluid. The rears only squirted small amounts of fluid.

When done... brakes still do not work properly. Can not stop the truck above 10 mph. Soft break pedal.

Am goig to try to re-bled the rears. Can dirt accumulate in the system and cause a blockage some where? How would I clean the lines out? Disconect each and use a small amount of pressure?

Besides the ABS unit there is the pressure or flow control valve? Can that fail or become blocked? If so how do I clear? Or do I replace. GOD PLEASE DO NOT LET IT BE THE ABS... I understand that part is mucho dinero?

Thanks in advance... Joe

If you can pump up the brake pedal then you still have air in the system.

Did you bleed the new master cylinder before installing it?
Do you have any brake warning lights on?
If not do a full rebleed again.

DiscoMike, I'm not second guessing you, but doesn't RAVE say to start bleeding at the r/f for LHD trucks? Glad this came up, I'm going to bleed my system tomorrow!

"YUP"
Doesn't mean that will give you the best results.
Most shops that I have managed always start at the l/r and work forward, that is what I have done with my vheicles over the last 20 plus years with good results.
