Front Crossmember Disco II
I've read on more than one aftermarket suppliers web sites that when installing a long travel or extra tall lift, you can remove the front crossmember for clearance issues. Anyone done this? I know the old saying, The factory put it there for a reason.
As far as I know, there's not a real great reason for it being there. GKN never could explain it. It's not on the other chassis'. I took it off on mine and I doubt I'll ever notice a difference.
First off don't be stupid and pay for a spacer that you can easily make yourself. I just did this last night with some plate I had laying around...
Leave the cross member in it IS there for a reason, if the bolts are broke drill them out and buy some new ones... don't just remove it.
That's just my 2 cents ... what do I know anyway.

As a general rule they do not put something on without it needing to be there. The bean counters tend to veto these parts. Now we may question why something is there. But when it comes to frame, and subsequent supports I kinda think that they need to be there. imho, and these trucks were not specked out being built the way we tend to do. Sooo I prefer to KEEP, the base supports and cross members.
