Default Front Drive Shaft

I saw on this forum that you cannot drive around with the front drive shaft removed without damage to transmission. I find this hard to believe. Can anybody clarify this? 2002 btw

With the front shaft removed, you cannot drive around, period.

That model year lacks a locking center differential.

That's not strictly true. If you remove the front driveshaft (propshaft this side of the Atlantic ) the truck ain't going nowhere unless you have a CDL (centre diff lock) and then you engage it. However, driving around indefinitely without the front driveshaft is not good practice as the front diff is unloaded whereas the rear diff is well loaded. It can be done as an emergency but for a limited time and at slower speeds. That's my reading of the situation but others may disagree.
