Default Fuel Return Line Repair/Replacement

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year :-)

I recently paid a mobile mechanic to replace the fuel pump in my 2001 Disco II. Immediately after the repair fuel began to leak from the rear driver side (this could be due to a slight slant where parked). I have used this same mechanic for repairs on another Disco II - with great results and he didn't take me to the cleaners.

I immediately contacted him when I saw the fuel leaking and he said "something must have chewed through the lines....". Well, I do live in the country, and we do have rodents that like to take up residence in motors. But, no. Nothing chewed through the lines. A friend of mine who does side work came to look at it and told me it is leaking from the fuel return line. Unfortunately he has started a new job that takes him away from our area during the week, and his wife has out her foot down on his weekend repairs.

Sorry for all of the background, however, I am hoping someone here as made this repair and can help walk me through how to do it. I am also hoping it is not too costly, funds are really tight at the moment.

Bueller?? Anyone. Please help me!!

Why not call your mobile mechanic?

You can pull back the rear carpet(remove side bins), and access the fuel pump through a bolt on cover in the floor.
That's easier than dropping the tank.
It sounds like he didn't reattach the line correctly, or worse yet, damaged it.
Good luck with it.

You can also cut the carpet with a razor knife, flip the cut portion up, take the cover off. Post pics and we will help you troubleshoot.

No need to cut the carpet.
Someone did it in a way that you have to unscrew a long plate at the tail door to remove the carpet.

But you'll fight trying to get the carpet out from under the bins, and back under.
Been there, done that.
I took my fuel pump out last year to drain the gas tank.
That carpet is very thick and heavy.

I did call him. All he says to me is "something must have chewed through a line". I told him I do not agree and asked if he will come take a look at it. I told him, if a rodent did chew through something I am willing to pay him a trip charge, however, if it is something he is responsible for or due to the fuel pump replacement he should do right by that.

His response has been.....crickets. He will not respond to my calls or texts. Very disappointing since I have used him on several occasions with satifactory results. My opinion is he ought to come make certain it is not something he did, or didn't, do.

That's what I believe. He should come out to make certain it is not the result of his work. He will not respond to me.

Thank you. I am hoping to get to the repair in the next couple of weekends. If it is not obvious I will take your advice, thank you!

Sounds like the Better Business Bureau needs a phone call or email.
I had to do that to get my money back from a hack machine shop doing bad work on my block.
