Hi.
Almost a year ago, the fuel smell got too intense from microcracks leak at the top of the tank and decided to buy a new pump/sender assembly, as the original 21 years 150K miles one could deserve replacement for peace of mind.

The new pump got rid of the smell but after six months showed harder and harder starting until yesterday; after experiencing a sum of like 60 seconds cranking attempts to get the engine to run, decided to repair the original pump leak by filling the 'cross' with JB Weld epoxy as learned from a member of the forum. And installed back the original repaired pump. The 'newer' one to the used pile of things. Will look for the invoice if has warranty. Both are Bosch, look identical.

Today in normal errands; nine starts so far with immediate engine running fine all times. It is not a maybe, it is not a perhaps if it is the pump, it is for sure we are paying for crap parts.
So take note, the fuel smell can be eliminated by sealing the leaky area instead of buying a new garbage pump.

The pump can be accessed by cutting off in one minute a straight line to the floor foam layer with a sharp blade in line between the metal third row seat holding hooks and bend it up unless you choose the 2 hour-no-damage way in the manual. No need to remove the pump to repair the leak. Carpet cut is not discernible.
