FYI on your U joints!
I had my Front U-joints replaced with servicable U-joints last summer and have had my oil and U joints serviced at Jiffy Lube because I can watch em kinda. I allways ask did you get all three of the U joints and they say yes and I pay more for this by the way!! Well I was under the truck today and noticed one of the joints was backwards I cant get my grease gun on it!
I might go to jail tomarrow it was good know you all talk to in 5-10! : / I am going to get $$ back and this fixed for shure!!! So the point of this is go look at yours you may have a servicable unservicable U-joint err somthing like that! |
thanks for the tip, I'll check mine out
|
Forgive me for being stupid ?? but.............How can it be backwards ? its not possible
|
I use u-joints with the zerk in the end cap, but I could see how some u-joints with the zerk coming out of the center at an angle could be put in so the center yoke of the DC would make it hard to lube.
|
DITTO on the joint being installed so that the grease zerk is at a bad angle and can't accept the grease gun.....I hate to admit it but I made the mistake myself !!!
one possible solution is that there are several grease gun "needles " out there that are small enough to get to the fitting they are fairly cheap... it's a needle that has a grease zerk on one end.....best $2.00 I ever spent good luck |
What and where do you grease on the U joints. Do you put the grease gun on that nipple like "zerk" and try and get it through the small hole in the middle? If so I can see where a needle would really help.

If you're talking about one of these:
Attachment 48089 you can't properly lube a u-joint with it. If you're talking about one of these: Attachment 48090 That's what I use with the flush fittings I use on u-joints: Attachment 48091 |
I didnt know they made that!! Sweet I will get one today!
Thanks Boys |
thanks !! for the pics AC, the second one is the answer, and yes you can grease a typical zerk with it tou just have to be centered on the "ball" of the fitting
|
Yeah, it'll work on a "standard" zerk, just a PITA. They are really meant for flush fittings as pictured.
