Default Gear oil question

Greetings:

I'm working through DM's major service. I have had a heck of a time finding:

80/90W synthetic gear oil, 85W/140 for HD use

The only full synthetics I can find are 75W/90 and 75W/140

IS there a brand/dealer I should be looking at or is standard (hybrid) gear oil OK?

I can find Castrol and Valvoline, but they are not 'full synthetic'

Thanks for the assistance.

Rich

75W/140 is fine. I think Mobil 1 had, but I could be wrong.

Thanks. I checked and found Mobil 1 75W/90 in our area. Any problems with using that?

I'm 85+% city/highway driving and 5-10% off-road

Thanks again!

I used 75W/90 and my transfer case whines a bit after that, I'm going to try some heavier stuff and see it if quietens down.
That sucks at $10 a Qt

I just used Amsoil 75/90 in both diffs today, took her for a nice ride, and am running much smoother.

Dont waste your money on full syn gear lube.
Go to any farm supply store and they will have all the gear lube you could ever want.

If it would hurt the gears in the diffs or t/case, I would not have suggested it.
Also your D2, unlike the D1 came from the factory with synthetic gear oil.

Short answer, yes, standard hypoid gear lube is fine.

Don't take everything you read on the internet as gospel then drive yourself crazy trying to follow it. Compare what you see with your own research.
The 02' owners handbook - Export calls for "Multigear Texaco 75W/90R or oil to meet API GL5"
First, the Texaco is semi-synthetic, but can be hard to find in the US.
Second, GL5 gear lubes are a dime a dozen, including 85W/140.
