Get a new motor, part it out, sell it as is?
Well, my motor is toast. It made it about 500 miles after having the head gaskets done. So do I try to find a new motor or part it out, or does anyone want to buy a very nice 2001 rover that needs a new motor?
It was fun while it lasted, now I'm getting a 4 runner.

So did you find out you had a cracked block after the head gasket replacement? Did you have a cyl that was steam cleaned or much cleaner then the others?
To answer your question it really all comes down to how much you like your Disco. Seems many of us will do anything to keep it alive regardless of the cost. I spent about 5K in materials only on my 04 with notion I'd like to keep it around for another 10 years. Will this happen, don't know but that's that plan.
A 4 runner would be a much more enjoyable own hands down but its not a Disco and I love my Disco's.

where are you located?
I'm located in central Utah.
I have loved the Rover but my concern is, if I get a new motor put it in and then blow the head gaskets or something else. I loved driving the Rover but of all the vehicles I've had, the Rover made me the most nervous that something was going to go wrong. I so wish there was a easy diesel or chevy 350 conversion.

In Utah, you can get a motor cheap maybe at a junk yard.
Just gotta be patient.
Or you could find one in the Bay Area or LA and drive there and get it.
Problem is - motor may be junk you are buying too.
You need a wrecked Rover which you can hear the motor run.
You can also get your motor rebuilt with TOP HAT sleeves.
Guys in Cali rebuild these motors so that they are indestructible.
If your drive shaft was vibrating and your transfer case leaks
and your transmission jitters on take off - you may as well sell it
and get Yota. Use the Force Luke.

The Rover has a custom front bumper, nice tires, rebuilt driveline, interior is great, no dents etc. Everything is good except the motor I'm thinking of asking $1,500 for it. Does that seem fair?
$1500 for a non runner, you're dreaming.
You can buy a running one for $2000.
All of the extra's mean nothing because it doe snot run.
Pull all of the good parts off, sell them, scrap the rest.
$500 as is, extra parts or not, remember, it does not run and know one will pay $1500 for a non runner.
