Default Ghost in the Machine?

I just bought a 1996 discovery and am experiencing some issues with it.

1. The air conditioner will turn off and on intermittently when it is being used, andI hear a clicking noise coming from the passenger side glovebox area when this occurs.

2. It did not start on one occasion,it would turn over but would not start,it started and ran fine a few minutes later.

3. The radio worked great for a few days, but now the volume is real low, even when the volume **** is turned to the max setting. It is the factory radio.

4. When arming the security system, all the doors will lock automatically, except for the driver's door, this door has to be locked manually.

This is a 96 Discovery with 156k on it.All service and maintenance requirements have been performed and documented from various Land Rover dealerships up to 125k.It has a gasoline engine.

Many thanks for any advice or ideas.

Are you talking about the blower motor or the compressor?????
Sounds like you have a bad drivers door lock actuator.

I cant help you with the A/C, but as for the radio, there could be a short either in the speaker(s) or in the radio itself. AS for the drivers door lock as mike said it more than likely the lock actuator. The not starting issue could be a number of things but i'll leave that up to the pros.

SO its either that or your truck is haunted. Lets just go with haunted, its not as expensive to fix.
Good luck!

a simple check for radio may be that the driver volume control is turned down. Try to turn it up and see if the bars move.

Radio problem is sorted.I didn't know there was a driver volume control for it. Doh!

The ac blower will go off and the blue light on the ac button will go out as well. When it go off and comes back on i hear a clicking sound near the glovebox area, maybe a loose connection up under there or something.

So your stereo is working now? Recharge your A/C first, then check the blower. Door lock actuator, www.roverlandparts.com.

As for the no start, dont worry about it until it happens often. Next time just turn the key into the off position and then try again.

If it needed a recharge would the blower motor cycle with it?

Maybe, on some cars if the A/C is on and there is a fault it will mess with the blower, turn the A/C off and the blower works fine.
