Default GPS

Hopefully someone has answer for this question. I have a GPS that plugs into the cigarette lighter and is mounted above the rear view mirror on the ceiling next to the light. Of course running the plug from the cig. lighter to the GPS is messy, wires everywhere. Was thinking of tapping into the dome light wires and running a small cord out the headliner to power the GPS. Would the dome light be enough power for the GPS?

Would it not be just as easy to run your power wires across the headliner and down the A-pillar? That way you can tap directly into your accessory power circuit and there would be no doubt. Just a suggestion.

Move your GPS lower, like right above the dash. Right next to the drivers "A" pillar is a good spot.
But to answer your question, no, you cannot power the GPS with the dome light.

its a garmin but i do take long trips so it would be nice just to get rid of the wire. i suppose i will just run the power from the fuse box. it would just be so easy to tap into the light. thanks......

If you decide to keep this mounting location the only durable wiring solution is to run the wires to the power distribution module underneath the dash. This, in my opinion would be the first and only solution to the question you have presented. I have installed many different aftermarket solutions for customers in high lux cars for many years, this is how I or any one else in the profession would do this.

So i went ahead and placed a jumper fuse into the fuse box, ran a wire to the headliner, installed a cig lighter into the compartment above the RV mirror, plugged in the gps. works great and all those dang wires are gone.

about 5 mins of time.
