Great Autozone Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil + Filter special

A few months ago someone posted a great special Autozone was running on Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Here's another one...

5 quarts of any Mobil 1 synthetic plus and Mobil oil filter for $29.99

So, I bought 5 qts. of Mobil 1 10/40 High Mileage plus a 301 filter. It would normally have run me $55, so I saved $25!

I think the special runs through May 4th.

That's a great deal but most of us here prefer to use Rotella. Might consider it for the Volvo. Thanks for letting us know.

FYI, our rovers take 6.9quarts when replacing the filter with the oil change, not just 5

Was just at O'Reilly's. They have Rotella on sale: $10.99/gal (Reg $14.99) :)

Wal-Mart's regular price is $12.50 a gal for 15w-40, $11 for HD-30.
I use it in both our cars, keeps it simple to only have one oil in the garage.
Buy 2 gal of it and NAPA oil filters when they are BOGO.

You're right about the 6+ quarts. The special is $29.99 for 5 quarts, so you're paying full price for the extras. My plan is to go in and buy again while this is still going, and then hopefully there will be another oil-only promo where I can make up some of the missing quarts.

My philosophy on the oil is that I'm already saving so much money by doing it myself that I can swing a bit extra on premium oil. Also, our oil change intervals are kind-of weird (we don't drive much, so we're typically changing for time instead of mileage) and I'll stretch it sometimes so I'd prefer to play it safe and use synthetic.

Anyway, to each their own, and for those that use mobil synthetic it's a great deal (I also use Mobil synthetic in my Evolution).

Hmmm... you got me thinking... Do you like the standard Rotella or synthetic (I think there's a version of each)? If synthetic, what does the community like better than Mobil synthetic?

Thanks,
Ed

Ed, the reason many of us prefer the Rotella is because it contains more detergents so it cleans the engine better. It is also better for our "old technology" engines, they are basically a 1961-1963 Buick/Olds/Pontiac 215 aluminum engine designed in the mid fifties. If it was a modern engine I would probably use Mobil 1 but it isn't. I am currently using non synthetic Rotella but I have thought about changing to synthetic Rotella which I think is T6. I used Mobil 1 when I first got the truck and never had any problems but after some research I came to the conclusion that Rotella was better.

Buick - thanks for the info! You've convinced me. After I go through my stockpile of Mobil 1 I think I'll switch over to Rotella synth.
