Default Grey warm weather thermostat vs motorad

I remember people having a problem with one if the other. Anybody have a take on this? There's the grey/black one British Atlantic sells and then there's the motorad..

Also the grey one that British Parts of Utah sells.
I will be interested in hearing what people who have purchased any of these has to report.

I went with the motorad and I haven't had any problems or overheating. But I don't have an ultra gauge to confirm temps.

If any of you have actual records, it would be great to hear the before and after numbers.

I bought the motorad one on amazon. Dropped my temps by about 8-12 degrees across the board.

Before I was running about 200-206 around town. Idle spiking sometimes to 212.

Freeway would be about 195-199.

With the new motorad thermostat, I have been seeing about 194 around town. Idle going to about 199 sometimes. (usually stays about 195 at the most though).

Freeway I am about 188-190. I'm very pleased with the results and the motorad one is pretty cheap.

EDIT: All these temps are via my ultra gauge.

The Internet seems to be full of complaints about the Motorad thermostats.
I'd go with OE lower temp PEL500110. Most of the parts suppliers should have them.

I also went with the motorad because someone that knows way too much(Grahm) told me it was a good idea. My temps went down 8-10 degrees overall. 194 seems to be the magic number. Don't get on the highway much. At idle I might hit 200 every now and then. All temps through ultra guage.

My cooling system was new, I replace everthing, including stock theromostat. Could not get my aux fan to shut off. Temp was 218-220 all the time. (crazy) Heard about the grey soft spring thermostat. Installed ome in land rover box grey soft spring theromostat. Temps are 185-187 at frwy speed and 187-190 at idle. Outside temps 89f-99f Close loop no problem. Winter time should be ok.

Those San Diego winters are brutal. Sometimes you even need a sweatshirt!

I'm running the Motorad and saw my temps as indicated on an aftermarket gauge dropped 10 degrees across the board. It's been in for about 8,000 miles so I can't comment on it's longevity.

I've done a ton of research on this and will keep it short cause I'm in my iPad, but the best reason to switch to the motorad unit is that it has two sensing holes instead of four SMALL holes that always become blocked (including mine which only had ~5k miles on it) - one blocked hole is 25% of the sensing ability which is crucial for our bypass system while at idle because those holes cause tstat to open and regulate idle temps when the system is bypassed.
