Default Help please. How to fix this coolant leak from hose (pic)?

Been losing a little bit of coolant, paranoid I had a head gasket leak.

There was pink on this hose when I bought the truck, but the PO said the dealer had already fixed it, there was just remnants of coolant. (I had an inspection at the dealer, too, and they said the same thing.)

Seems that the leak has re-appeared. Much better a hose than a gasket!

Would this be easy to fix? Any how-to's (write-ups) around? Thanks.

the pics are taken at hoses that are just behind/underneath the location where the throttle cable terminates near the right middle of this pic (sorry it's blurry):

maybe your clamp isnt getting tight enough. try getting one you tighten with a screw driver and tighten the hell out of it

It is your throttle body heater plate gasket. You can replace the gasket but if you go that route go ahead and buy 5 or 6 of them because it will continue to spring a leak. This is a horrible weak link in the cooling system, many of the more experienced people on this forum have bypassed that component with ZERO PROBLEMS. It is a cheap fix either way but bypassing it will fix the problem, forever.

This advice bothers a few people for some reason.

+1 throttle body.. i would do the gasket, not a fan or bypass. not sure where you live either so that is a consideration.

I did the bypass, but i'm in south Texas where the coldest weather we get is all of 40 degrees so... Its pretty safe to say I wont be needing it anytime soon. I did however order a new one, just been too lazy to put it on!

Regards,

The fix for this is $25 at the dealer for the kit. The new kit has a different heater plate that is less likely to leak. If the dealer just "fixed it" and didn't use the kit, it will leak again.

It looks like it is just the hose to me. Cut the clamp off and get a regular worm type hose clamp and tighten it a little more. Too tight and you could cut the hose, so don't go nuts.

yep, it will spew everywhere.... it's probably under pressure (mine was) when I pulled it off.... you loose a bit of coolant, so you will need to have some on hand, and also, I bled my system by lifting up the cooland expansion tank, opening the bleeder screw, after I had filled it up, just to be on the safe side...

I would open up the top of the cooland expansion tank if I have to do this again.... should let some pressure out of the system...

I used the permatex grey gasket sealant, along with the new gasket kit per the recommendations of the good folks on this forum. Works fine, no leaks.

I also had to buy mine at the dealer which cost me $64 as I needed it pronto. I think AB had it for like $25...

Also, scrub that area down well so you can see if leaks develop in the future..

The by-pass will work fine with no need to worry about it.
Whatever you do, make sure to bleed the coolant system after opening it up.
