Default help truck wants to die at idle

2001 discovery 2 SE
149118 miles

More frequent here lately the truck will spit and spit when idling. Changed spark plugs and wires (magnecor 8mm and Bosch +4). Any advice trying to restore to its former glory. Thanks in advance

I read on the forum here to buy an ultra guage to keep an eye on the engine temp. So another one I have is rpm. Normal is around 650 to 750 but has drop down to 518 and truck will want to die. So I put 1 foot on brake the other on gas and rev it slightly to around 800 til it clears up. It's automatic so I don't know if that helps with anything or not.

Other than idle it runs good has good pick up and response after this next I plan to tackle the hard shifting in first and second but no big problems other leaking oil and have to add antifreeze every week or so.

1st, find out where the coolant is going......pressure test or however.

I would want to check for vacuum leaks....
is your air filter clean?

Yeah air filter is clean replaced it maybe 1k miles or so ago. Well was thinking of replacing head gasket and like a partial rebuild while I'm there such as timing gear, oil pump, water pump, and anything else that looks bad and needs replacing. Never done it before but shouldn't be to hard, right ?

Only idea I can think of as to the is maybe the ignition coil or crankshaft sensor going bad don't really know or have money to throw at it at the moment. Also I occasionally have 4 misfire codes p0300 po301 p0303 and p0305 and the code saying right bank running lean. But I think that might be from the person I got it from thought it would be cool to cut the cats off so currently running without. Found a replacement y pipe with both cats for around 350 - 400 figure that will clear up the running lean.

Coolant leaks I follow the drips under the truck to the back of the motor, smells hot after driving but guage says 185-188.6, might be air in the line. People I got it front used it as a hunting truck and beat it around ran hot a few times. I replaced the radiator because the top return line nipple was broke when I got it also changed the thermostat and put fresh green antifreeze. So not sure bout the hg but I figure it won't be long as it nears 150k miles with no major service done to that I know of
