If you are dead set on getting a DII then get a '99.

the 99, like mine, has CDL on the TC. So if you choose to take it off road you can engage it with a 10mm open end wrench or install a D1 cdl linkage or an electric solenoid. Unlike the 03 and 04 it has the 4.0 instead of the 4.6.

Mine's an '02 and I like it just fine:D. No option for CDL without swapping the TC, but I haven't been in a situation....YET....where I have needed it yet.
If you don't plan on much serious off-roading, you'd be just fine in an '02 IMO. |

If you don't plan on much serious off-roading, you'd be just fine in an '02 IMO. I have a full size SUV now for the family and an AWD fun car with snow tires for messing around in the winter. I want an extra car to use for the activities I am tired of getting the daily cars all dirty with. |
Without a lockable center diff, a disco is not very good offroad. Sure the traction control is supposed to make a CDL redundant but once those amigos are on and you lose your ABS then your Land Rover is about as capable as my corolla in the snow or mud.

Rob i would highly suggest a 99 or 00. If you do enjoy an off-road trip with our club and want to do it again you will be kicking yourself for not getting a rig with CDL without a TC swap.
