The insulation under the hood is sagging badly, and I am wondering what approaches other people have taken to fix it.

First, should I just get some adhesive and stick it back on? Second, replace with a new piece? or buy some sound and heat insulation from JC Whitney or others and replace the original material?

I am leaning towards replacing it with some aftermarket heat shield. Seems like it may do a better job than what is on there.

 

good question as mine is starting as well. is it a good idea to just remove it? or will it bake the paint on the hood?

 

It's a fire blanket. There is no harm done in removing it if you want.

i only ask because in my xr4ti the hood insulation was a known fire hazzard as it would fall onto the turbo. lol

 

I have always ripped it out and put it in the trash.

 

Catching fire is the least of your worries with the Disco.....if it does catch fire it is just paying homage to the Rover Gods and the Thor Motor.

 

I thought that blanket was to keep paint from baking off from below. if it doesn't do that, I will trash mine too..

This is a good topic. I'm guessing it wouldn't hurt to replace it with a different type of heat shield.

I'm looking for some free time to replace the windshield wash sprayers on the hood. If I could tear out the insulation, that would probably help.

 

Didn't think of the noise aspect. Damn fan is loud enough. I'm wondering also if getting rid of it will help lower under hood temps at all. Mine lays on the plenum.
