The new cable and pull was a snap to install the only finicky pieces were pulling the trim. I would say this is pretty darn easy to do.
Ghost Rider if yours is already pulling hard lube it up before it seizes, because it is a lot easier to prevent then to replace.
I will lube it up...whats the trick to stretching the spring?

I didn't stretch my spring I compressed it by tightening up the bolt in the middle of it.

I will probably bring it in for an estimate.
You might want to consider trying White Shepard, it is a oil seal conditioner, if it is the rear main that wont be cheap and White Shepard is good stuff, its expensive but good.

Your buddy at Petey's said it looked like it wasn't the rear main. It looked like it might be the front seal on the tranny. The oil wasn't red but it may be so dirty you can't tell. Either way Petey is tearing into next week some time. He estimated a couple hundred bucks. (Let's hope it ain't the rear main!) I am the type that would rather have it fixed right and know I can follow you to Alaska tomorrow rather put in some fluid and pray it holds. I figure if I have done new seals on the bottom end and the head gaskets that this motor will be good for like 6 more months at least!

I am with you on fixing it right the first time, depending on budget of course.

Mikes shop does not look like much, but hes does good work.
See that hot rod pickup thats primer and green? The bed on that is from my utility trailer.
That was a right hand drive truck and they converted it to a left hand drive.
They stuffed a Ford 396 big block into it too.
They also built the worlds largest self propelled roller skate, they are waiting for The Guinness Book of World Records to confirm it.
I am looking at having Mike build me a winch bumper.

Phil, good to see your Disco today at the shop too! Your right. Leland and Rose are salt of the earth and very good prices. I will be a loyal customer from here on out. Thanks for the recommendation.

When I saw your truck there Mark I laughed, Petey's looks like a Rover shop with yours on the lift and mine on a jack stand.

I am going to get him a copy of the RAVE manual.

I tried to attach it in an e-mail. A bit too big. He's going to want it being a Rover specialist now and all!

Petey's Pit Stop!

I drive by there all the time. I've been wondering where I could find a good place for me to take my new Rover to if I need something. I've been meaning to try to get in contact with you Spike, since I saw the mars hill link in your sig and I used to attend there.

So you'd recommend Petey's place if I need repairs or something I can't handle on my own?

I'm also dealing with a hood that won't open, which is unfortunate because i need to jump the battery. Gonna try getting in through the headlight like suggested above.

45 minutes later....

popped the headlight. use wire strippers to get through the housing to pull on the actual release cable. i can pull on it and it feels like it should be releasing, but the hood won't budge. had a neighbor hold tension on the cable as i banged around on the hood trying to get it to pop (which worked yesterday). i didn't use a prybar but i was lifting pretty hard on it while the cable was pulled too.

at a loss for what to do next. the battery is dead so i can't take it anywhere. probably going to need to get a new cable at this point as i'm almost tearing through the old one. there's plenty i can do to try to prevent this from happening again once the hood is open, i just can't get it open. any advice/ideas?
