How hard is adding ACE?
I need to ad that I also rely on my truck everyday, and I just bought a house, and a 6x12ft utility trailer to pull behind my 222k mile 16yr old Land Rover so I can make trips to the dump, lumber yard, soil, mulch, etc.
There is a 50ft dead pine tree in the backyard that I need to cut down, and then pull the stump out of the ground, all with my 16yr old 222k mile Land Rover and and then drive her to work on Mon.
Am I worried about my truck lasting forever?
Nope.
Why?
Because I know it is a fact that she will not last forever.
ALL relationships come to a end, all of them.

I just want my truck to make it to 150k...if it doesn't, oh well. My 95 2dr Yukon made it to 295k so I have hope.
Spike, glad to k is in not the only one that pulls stumps with the rover like a tractor.

Clarification: My ****ing brakes work! You guys dont listen at all! For afew weeks I drove around relying on slow speeds, back roads (avoiding highways) the e-brake and using what little braking I had left in the pedal to slow the vehicle down. I get the point and I will not mis-use the e-brake ever again. I have since replaced:
- both front calipers
- rotors front and rear
- pads front and rear
- brake master cylinder
- added anti-squeel to metal side of brake pads
- new caliper mounting bolts
- new caliper guid pins
- flushed and bleed the system twice (first time incorrectly, second time DAP did the entire system SLABS, MC and each wheel).
My brakes have increased quit a bit from the way they were before. Step on the brake pedal and guess what?! The Disco slowly slows down. The pedal is heavy though and the brake booster is failing. I will replace it soon. But my brakes work enough that I DO NOT NEED to use the engine brake technique or the e-brake.
AGAIN: My dam brakes work! You guys really need to listen to what I say the first time or dont comment at all. And your dam right I take care of my truck! Just replaced front driveshaft, rebuilt rear shaft, installed all new hardware for both shafts. All fluids flushed and new. Give me a dam break here cause I just spent almost $1,000 on brake work and brake parts.

We listened, and what we were saying is that when you had brake problems you should have stopped driving the DAMN (a dam is what they use on rivers to hold the water back)truck.
Anytime you go down the side of a mountain you should use a lower gear on the transmission, even the owners manual will tell you that.
Replacing parts is not taking care of your truck, that is preventing potential problems from happening later.
Taking care of your truck is not driving it like a mad man, using the correct fluids and filters and grade of fuel.

He is NOT a car guy, he does not work on it himself.
He changes the oil when the lifters start ticking because he wont check the level himself, he's going for 300k and then getting rid of it.
Well I see it is only fitting as Land Rover was originally designed to be used instead of a farm tractor, it was the original multi purpose utility vehicle.

Once again, you need to listen. When your cruising down the side of a mountain, or any steep hill, you don't rely on your brakes. What happens when your brakes give out? Engine braking retards your speed, but it doesn't stop you. Thats why you use it and save your brakes for those what if situations when you need to come to a complete stop. Did you bother watching that video I posted? And on top of that, do you really think "The disco SLOWLY slows down" is really safe?!?!?! Maybe instead of insisting on us listening to you the first time, you should listen us before you get yourself or more importantly, somebody else killed.
I could give a **** less if you think you take care of your truck, you still wont pass safety testing to get your truck road legal without that brake booster working properly, which means your truck is still UNSAFE and your still putting everybody else on the road in danger because of your stupidity. It doesn't so much bother me that your ok with getting yourself killed, but it really pisses me off that your willing to put yourself out there to get somebody else killed.
You know whats worse then a moose coming through your front windshield? A brakeless, two and a half ton slab of metal with a clueless driver slamming into you head on going 90 miles an hour because he thought that a "SLOWLY slowing down" disco was ok to drive down a ****ing mountain without practicing something as simple as engine braking because he's so worried about making his truck last a million miles.
The same truck that he wants to add a useless system too, then cut in half and extend the length all the while bragging about how special it is because it has some fancy plastic pieces and some ****ing fog lights wired in from the factory; after everybody and their mother has told him repeatedly not to do such things, and not only that, they even told him WHY he shouldn't do those things, yet he still wont listen. Instead of listening to everybody the first time, he continues to go on and on and on about the same stupid ****.
Your a ****ing idiot, and your going to get somebody killed.
I know your to afraid of scratching your paint to ever go off road, but heres a video demonstrating basically what happens when you use your barely working brakes go out. Which the way you drive down that mountain of yours is bound to happen at some point.
To bad I know you wont watch this.
Dont know where you've been but my brakes work sufficiently enough to get me to/from work daily.
Step on the brake pedal and guess what?! The Disco slowly slows down. The pedal is heavy though and the brake booster is failing. I will replace it soon. But my brakes work enough

i love this thread all the cool videos. has anyone thought of setting up a section of the form to post cool videos ?
on a serious note i too was kinda bumed out over not getting a disco with ace and u know what? from what Ive read we are both better off.
