Default How often do you replace your brake pads?

I'm running Akebono ceramics with DBA rotors on my D2 and I think my pads are getting thin, so on Monday I'll check them out and replace them if needed. The pads I have on there now have about 13000 miles on them. Anyhow, I was wondering how often are you guys going through pads?

That I think is a really hard question to answer. There are SO many factors that come into play that affect wear. Driving habits, distance, pad quality, rotor quality, road conditions, etc.

Looking at your location you have listed I suspect you get stuck in that oh so fun DC area traffic so 13k miles for a set of Akebonos sounds within the realm of possibility.

Yeah, drivig habits/conditions greatly effect the life of pads. I guess I'm just curious to see how often other people have to change their pads.

I just replaced mine about 10 minutes ago... The old pads have been on the truck for about 2 years, maybe more like a year and a half. My brakes have been squeaking pretty bad, but when I took them off, there was a lot of pad left. I went ahead and put the new pads on (Akebono ceramics), so we'll see what happens tomorrow when I go have the fluid flushed and replaced. Going to rebuild the brake fluid reservoir and grommets also, in the morning. I'm leaking fluid.

I bought the Furado kit from Atlantic British and did all pads and rotors when I bought my truck 47k mile ago. I changed the rear pads when they hit 40k, but they realistically had 5-10k left in them and the fronts had not even worn completely through the relief cuts yet, they will be on there for probably 70-80k miles. The rotors are all fine as well. Just for reference, I am a very light braker and just try to adjust my throttle to the traffic conditions.

You must be hard on your brakes because 13,000 miles is way to little. I currently have close to 50,000 miles and 7 years on my set of brakes. They squeak a little but still have life left in them.

13K does seem way to soon to me as well. They have been squeeking a ittle but now I'm thinking it's jut been because of th cold. I am not rough on my brakes at all, I do wonder though if the DBA rotors I have are chewing up the Akebono pads. I should have a chance to pop off a wheel tomorrow and take a look. I hope I'm just being paranoid.

ZB, I had the same symptoms as well. My pads were squeaking really bad for about the last 2 or 3 weeks (it's been really cold here). I changed my pads out Friday night and my old ones had quite a bit of life left on them. I went ahead and put new Akebono pads on. I had a slight squeak this morning on the way to work, but only happened once.

Maybe they were just really dirty and making a lot of noise. I thought I got them cleaned off really good, but I may pull the tires off again and spray some more cleaner on them to see if I can get any more dirt and brake dust off after a couple of days.

Turns out it's just been the cold and road salt making the noise, still got lots of life left on the pads. I was just getting paranoid I guess.
