I used a smaller belt with the pump left out and ran fine to work and back home. i have a small lift with coil springs, the airbags are gone and the the little shocks leak fluid anyway. can i run without the pump?

 

Which pump?

 

the hydraulic pump that operates the stability control. I don't think it ever worked right. should I fix it or does it matter?

 

it sits next to the ac compressor.

 

ACE Pump, you can find used ones online, or if you're lucky a junk yard. ACE is a very nice setup and it's a pretty trouble free system.

Do you want to keep your ACE equipped D2 operating properly? Is a better question.

You can run without the ACE pump by using a non ACE serpentine belt. However your dash is going to display an ACE hard fault, and since your ACE system will be INOP it "should" technically go into lockout mode and not cause any excess body roll (ride can possibly stiffen due to the system being INOP).

However if that's how you'd like to run your D2 then I suggest going to a pick n pull and grabbing the complete F/R Anti-Swaybars from a Non Equipped ACE D2 and deleting it properly.

Just my 2 cents, but I love my 99 D2 equipped with ACE and if the pump dies I'd do my best and fixing it. Ebay, or sellers like Will or Paul on here can probably hook you up with a replacement pump.

 

Just FYI, if the pump dies it's essentially impossible to reassemble it without some kind of specialised jig. You can find replacements for less than a couple of hundred though.
If the ACE system develops faults it goes into a locked mode, so you get increased body roll. Supposedly it will be about the same as non-ACE suspension but you'll have the added complexity of the ACE rams. As Best4x4 says, ideally you'll go through all the hassle and expense of replacing all of those instead of just getting a new pump if you want to delete the system safely.

 

Thanks guys that's what I wanted to hear. Because I'm a broke man I'll run without it for now and just not do any 4 wheeling. I have to drive the truck to work and work on it every weekend. I decided today to dub it the never ending story. But u know with every little thing I fix it's slowly coming together. I found a pump for it for cheap before I started this thread and just wanted to know if I needed to spent the money on it now. The shocks on the ace system always leaked and needs serious work. The light has been in since I got the truck. One day it may get an overhaul but I think I'll look for some cheap sway bars for now

 

Do you mean the Hydraulic Rams are leaking F/R? If they're leaking then that's probably what killed the ACE Pump (low or no fluid in the system). The front ram is like 159.00, and I'm sure the rear isn't that much more.

Now if you're talking the rear Self Leveling Suspension Air Bag's that is a totally different ball of wax. You can either get some Arnott rear Air Bags guaranteed for life, or get a coil spring conversion. If you go the coil spring conversion you will have to either replace the SLABS unit with one from a D2 without SLS or have your SLABS programmed to disable the SLS function.

I've heard of people running 6oz of the Lucas Steering Additive in their ACE systems to help seal it up. My 99 D2 has a perfect working ACE system, and I removed the SLS, installed a SLABS out of an 04 without SLS.
