Default I truly despise the location of the coil packs. Is there a realistic solution?

They are in the absolute worst location, made worse further by having the OEM brush bar I have to crawl over to reach them. Land Rover has committed a lot of sins with the design of the Disco, but the coil pack location might be in my top five most hated design decisions.

I've read things about a coil pack relocation, but I just don't see how this is realistic given all the mods it seems need to be made. Is this just the way it is?

Maybe I'm making my life unnecessarily hard here - I can't figure out a way to connect and disconnect the plug wires from the pack without the packs being mounted in placed. There's not enough room between the intake manifold and the A/C pipes to first plug the wires in and then move the coil packs into place. So I just do it blind by feel. You guys experience the same?

  • It’s tight for sure. I’ve done it without removing the intake but I don’t have huge hands. I pulled the intake when I replaced the coils and will probably just pull it again if I ever have to do the wires again.

Having just done this job myself and I have SAI it is impossible to do without removing the intake. I seriously considered relocating them and I found a couple of kits for sale but in the end I just put them back. I removed the hood which did make the job a lot easier.

Where did you find the kits? I thought they had all dryed up

If you really want to relocate, it might be a custom job these days as the only kit I know of isn't being made anymore.

I have actually slid both coil packs mounted on the bracket back there with the intake plenum on (sai tubing removed of course). Have no idea how I did it, but it happened. When I removed them I had the manifold off though.

I've done plug wires twice without removing plenum as well. I have bigger hands but it is possible.

Tarheel (a Rover wrecker) on DiscoWeb took over from LR03NJ (the original seller in this forum, his actual name is Gerry Conder). Tarheel is still selling them at:

Removing the upper intake looks bad it's really not. The studs for the SAI pipes are the biggest hurdle. Replace those with bolts and it's much easier & quicker.

Ouch, at that price and the few times you should have to do the job I think I'll take the intake off. Or eventually make my own bracket and extension leads.
