Default instrument cluster

Hello.... I'm new to the Land Rover community. i recently bought a 2001 Disco II, and im loving it.I recently started to experience a strange problem. As im driving down the road, the engine would start to stumble, and im loosing all power.I thought it might need a good tuneup, but then i noticed that the spedometer drops down to zero when im experiencing this problem.
Im also a BMW owner and i am familiar with a problem in the instrument cluster. when the soldering connections go bad on the motherboard it efects the engine.
Is this also the problem with the 2001 Disco II???
Has anyone experienced such a problem???

May be a low voltage issue, what does the tach do? Might want to clean and tighten your battery leads then go have the battery/alternator checked at Auto Zone.

VSS! If your voltages wheck out, replace you vehicle speed sensor..I think there is a link for a walkthrough on changing it somewhere.. Let me know if you need it.

Electronic speedo uses the same speed signal as an input to the engine ecu , Is it actually running rough and stalling ? Tach jumping around ?
any radio issues ? need more info for diagnosis .( BUT READ THIS)
Cluster-radio issues can commonly be related to the hedder junctions located under the passenger side dash, if the vehicle ever had water leaking through the heater box fresh air intake, the big black harness cover located about where the carpet reaches the firewall, under the blower motor.
Cut the wire ties and carefully cut open the black cover to expose the harness,if you find any green dust or stains you've scored the problem.
The hedder junctions are the 1X2 grey and green blocks located in this harness. Land Rover used to sell these junction blocks as kits with all the pins etc to replace them. Caution here to correctly replace all the wires to the same locations.if you open the junction you can see that all the wires are not connected as a big bunch, but as groups of 4 or 6 wires in each block.

further diagnosis.... as the vehicle travels at any given speeds, when the problem occures the engine stumbles, thee spedo falls to 0 while the tach shows fluctuations that mirror what the engine is doing. the problem is intermitant. on my BMW, i know that both comuters (750iL has 2 computers for the V12) get signals grom the spedo and speed sensor. ig the signal is disrupted the engine goes into limp mode. On the Disco, the engine just stumbles and i loose power as if i just lifted off the throttle. all other istruments work fine, as well as the radio.
thank you in advance....:-)

Check with someone, I'm pretty sure DII's use the ABS sensors for vehicle speed signal ,you need to look at the correct wiring diagram to conferm this.
