Just bought a 94 Discovery TDi
Hi! I've just bought my first ever Land Rover from a car auction. However there seems to be a problem with it and I wondered if anyone had any ideas before I take it to Land Rover and say goodbye to huge amounts of cash!
Basically there seems to be no power at all below 2,000 revs. At 2,000 revs it will start to pick up however it will not go over 3,000 revs no matter what gear you are in even if you push the accelerator to the floor! This means it is almost impossible to drive as it takes ages to get to 2,000 revs and then you have to change gear immediately which drops it below 2,000 revs! I've only had it over 50mph by going downhill!
I wondered if the turbo might be faulty but I really don't know much about cars. If it's a serious problem I'll just put it back in the auction but I really don't want to! I've been after a Discovery for years!
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

RE: Just bought a 94 Discovery TDi
HI Rik,
It is hard to say what the problem is. It may be sometime as simple as a fuel filter. The good news is it is not a LR problem just an engine problem. As you live in England diesel engine are all over the place. Therefore if I were you I would seek out a good diesel mechanic. The going downhill bit reminds me of the old ser: rovers. they only go to 50+ by going downhill when they were in goog running order. The only other time they broke the 50+ barrier was when they were being towed.
