Default Just bought my 1st Disco.....

Little background on me..... I'm 24 and have been mostly a muscle car guy but have been into 5.0 mustangs this century. My cousin has a 99 Disco II and it has grown on me. So when I had a chance to get a 96 disco at a steal of a price I couldn't pass it up. It's a grey, automatic SE. Things I plan to do soon:

- Convert to DII taillights
- Exhaust, muffler at the least
- 2"-3" lift
- Rims and tires
- Convert to 99+ lug pattern
- Fender flares (Use DII if possible)
- New shocks
- Fix the rear side window that falls down
- Fix power steering leak

Any flaws in my list above? Anything else I should do?

Is converting to the DII tail lights and lug pattern doable? I'm guessing I'd use a DII rear axle and spindles, rotors and brakes for the conversion. Will that work? Is there an easier way?

How much wider is a DII's wheels set apart than a DI?

Well nothing from a DII will fit a DI and vise versa.
The DII is wider, the wheel base is the same but the axles are wider as well as the body, the body is also longer.
Well, end of story, no go on using DII parts on your DI.
Same exact block and heads but thats it, different intake, ECU, everything.
Does that answer your question?

You can get conversions that will offset out so you can fit d2 wheels on if you want. You may have to trim a little for larger tires.
Cant do the tail lights unless you are good at cutting the body
Rover connection has flares for a d1

Before you do a muffler, cut off the resonator.

Oh yeah get on discoweb for the fix on your window or get a new regulator.

Cut off the factory hose clamps and put regular worm type clamps on your ps hoses for leaks

Thanks. I have check the other sites and have found plenty more info. As for the muffler my cousin's Disco has the Borla cat-back and I like the sound of it. I will probably just get a muffler of my choice, weld it in, also cut out the resonator and put in a straight pipe.

I don't want D2 wheels specifically, just more options. With the 5x6.5" pattern I have 3 or 4 options. With a 5x4.5" the options are endless and if I'm not doing heavy off-roading the 5x6.5" isn't necessary.
