Question Is it just me or am I confused?

Is the "valley pan" and the gasket for the "intake manifold" the same thing (with a different name)?

and

Is it possible to loose coolant through it - with about seven days of driving the Disco looses about an inch of coolant - I do not have any leaks aside from having to re-torque the valve cover gaskets (probably shouldn't have said that though, knocking on wood)

Or

Generally speaking is the fill line on the fill tank accurate?

If I have to go in deep - what all can I replace on the way out, plug wires etc...?

Thanks for any answers

Robert

Yes they are the same thing, and yes you can loose coolant from it, normally from the back left corner (looking at engine), it runs down onto the bell housing at the back. I bet LOTS of headaskets have been replaced over the years when its actually the valley gasket that is the biggest culprit.

This is what is normallt considered to be the intake manifold, the valley pan is different.

Thanks guys I'll try to get a look at the backside of the engine, see if anything is going that way.

Is there anyway for me to tell (by looking) where the juice is coming from?

I'm thinking this will be a pretty straight forward R&R job? probably need a good torque wrench tho...

Sorry the questions are so general - I'm trying to get an overall picture (while trying to find the problem) and I'm still having trouble with the rave manual

Again thanks for your help and patience

Thanks Mike,

I'm going to try to get more details (taking the time to REALLY LOOK) to see if I can determine where the coolant is going?

If its going out through the heads, that means its going out with the exhaust?

Thanks Guys

Sorry I didnt explain, but my whole point of posting that was so that you could see what gasket is what and remove all doubt as to what each gasket is called.
And if you know anything about engines you will know where each gasket goes.
