Default Just picked up my "new" 2004 Disco - Need Tire Help

Hi all-

Just picked up my 2004 Discovery after sadly losing my '01 to a crash a couple weeks ago.

It has practically bald tires, so new tires are the first thing I need.

It currently has mismatched 255/55/R18's. I'm thinking of going with the Wranger Silent Armour on the advice of folks here, as I was just about to have them put on my other Disco when I had the accident.

I would like to go a size up. What size so you all recommend? And, any reason I should/shouldn't go with the Silent Armour on this Disco?

Thanks, as always, for your help!

Marni

Default General Grabber AT2 or Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2

I'm in need of new tires also. I've been reading through some of the past threads and the consensus I've found seems to point to either of these tires for the stock 255/55-18 tire category:

General Grabber AT2 or Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2

Tirerack.com has them for $219 and $210 respectively. I have the stock 18" rims on my 2004 Disco II. I drive about 30 miles to work each day, so highway mileage will be part of the tires future. I'm not off-road often, but I do want them to perform well in light to moderate snow that the Northern VA area gets occasionally.

I have the stock Michelin tires on right now and they are in need of replacement. If I'm spending $170+ for an all-season tire, I might as well go get the best AT tire I can get for my rim size and be done with it.

I hope some of the seasoned forum vets will provide some much needed advice.

Thanks for reading.

I just installed the Bridgestone a/t Revo 10 ply LT version. I used this tire on my last truck (chevy s10 zr2) and had good results as a daily driver and non-mud off road use. My past off road driving was limited to easier trails in Moab and Sedona AZ. I was going to go with the GY MT/R but they were just too aggressive for sand and the locals suggested I go back to an A/T tire. My father also runs the Revo on his F350 super duty an has good luck with them out in Colorado.

I put on the AT2's about two months ago. They have been a great tire so far. There smooth on the road and great in the snow up here in the rocky mountains. I put on a 255/60/18 and picked them up from a local tire shop for $700 installed. They have good tread and The tire guy said to make sure and keep them rotated every 5000 miles because generals tend to cup. Don't know how true this is. I can post pics if you would like to see them.

I'd love to see a pick of what the AT2's look like on the 18" rim. If you have a pic handy, I'm sure people would enjoy seeing it. Thank you.

I have been very happy with the Nitto terra grapplers in 255/55/18. Great wet and dry traction. I have also been impressed with their offroad traction as well but, its a bit early to say how they will do with tread life. We are still waiting on our first accumulating snow so I cant say how they will do in that regard. Name: DSCF4343.jpg

Just wanted to update everyone. They carry the Nitto Terra Grapplers at WalMart for about $180 a piece, and another $10 each to mount. I thought it was a great deal, though hesitant about buying from WalMart and having them touch my Disco. Didn't matter, they were out of stock.

I did end up getting them from Discount Tire for $756 for the set of 4 with free shipping, and my local tire shop will mount & balance for about $100. In the end, since no tax was paid and would have been through Wally World) it'll be about $25 more.

I'll let you know how I like them down the road a bit.
