Land Rover Dicovery 2003
Well after problems with my 96 Discovery, I am searching for another one. I found a 2003 Discovery with 90,000 miles on it. I am going to look at it tomorrow. What do you think about this year? Any pointers on what I should look out for? Any advice would be sincerely appreciated, as I have a new baby girl and do not need a lemon. Thanks, in advance. George

This issue with the 2003 oil pump has been covered multiple times. IMO, if the engine runs out well, no signs of overheating, no flickering oil light and no sludge, then it should be OK.
But personally, I would look for a Volvo V70 wagon or an Accord wagon or something 4cyl that has the space to haul around kids stuff that gets at least 25 MPG.
The one thing that I dislike about my DIIs. They get 14 to 16 MPG driven gently. With a heavy foot, you may get 12 MPG.

Well, i couldn't help but go and see that beautiful Discovery. Took a 3 hour drive to see it. It was so pretty pulling in the parking lot, i was in love. As it came closer I heard the dreaded ticking noise (pretty loud) I got out of the car broken all hearted, shaking my head. It was a treat to drive.
The ticking would go away every once in a while? Mostly after you gave it some gas. Sounded like a lifter, or I was thinking that it was the dreaded oil pump the whole time? Lots of things ran through my mind as I drove the FAMOUS 2003, was the drive shaft going to break....ya never know is what they say. Whats up with that tick?
