Default Let’s name this sound!

Okay guys so I’m about 5 month Into the world of Land Rover... I’ve done a lot to my 2004 D2 SE7 89,000 miles from suspension, upgraded drive shaft, brakes, steering pump, sensors etc.... but I’ve yet to figure out my knocking issue.

this is a video after it’s first rotella t4 oil change and about 30 mins of city/highway driving.

sound appears when warm nothing when cold....

can any of you all help get a few more years out of her.

IDK but it sounds like a hydraulic valve lifter sticking?

Did it always sound like that or just when you changed the oil? What weight oil did you use?

Mine has had a ticking /knocking for years, although not that loud but sounds similar.

Sounds just like when I had a broken valve spring. Had to remove intake and valve covers and look very closely to find it. Could also be a lifter or something else. I've heard exhaust leaks sound like that too but yours sounds more metallic.. Slipped liner is what many jump to but, not as likely.

I hope it’s only an exhaust leak

Those are easy to find. Stick your hand in there and feel for that air being forced out of a compromised spot.

However, your symptoms don't point to that.

You have an 04 so slipped liner is unlikely and that is more of a"thud" noise, I am with a sticking, slow lifter or something in the valve train. That is is very metallic sounding to me. Warm is odd but if you have a clogged oil passage that would do it, as your engine warms up the oil flows away and you are not getting enough flow for lubrication.

You think adding a engine treatment to this rotella t4 and changing it to T6 after 300 miles will help?

also can you add more zinc to rotella, or is that over kill?

@Carlos Man More zinc will not help and can do damage. I am not a fan of engine treatments overall, but there are some cleaners that are better than others. The risk is getting your oil pickup screen plugged with debris, which reduces oil pressure, then you need to drop the pan.

Someone had a suggestion let me see if I can find it.
