Why lift? For a couple inches of clearance and aesthetics, you put more wear on your entire drivetrain, reduce mpg/stability (center of gravity)/acceleration/efficiency (the greater the pinion angle)...they all suffer. And you have to buy 5 new tires (your spare needs to be the same size). As a toy, sure...but daily driver, doesn't seem worth it.

Having said that, your reasons are your own. Most everyone will recommend the DuraTracs...they're just pricey. Personally for the money, I'd go with the Hankook Dynapro ATMs which are probably 5% worse performance wise for $50 less per tire.

 

I'd like into anti-sway control if you intend to tow very heavy loads, possibly nearing the weight of your disco, such as the pictured horse trailer a couple of posts back.

It's only a daily driver in inclement weather and it's also used to tow my trailers. I want increased clearance for the occasional off-road excursion and I want more aggressive tires for the same reason.

I'm not looking to jack it up to the sky, just a mild change in altitude...

You are right, I don't have to lift it, but I have enough time and money in it that I will keep it forever at this point... In the end, I want it to look and perform the way I want it to look and perform.

So, based on how I will use the vehicle, I do want to make reasonable modifications and spend my money intelligently (if you can ever call modifying a vehicle intelligent).

At this point, I'm interested to hear from anyone with specific experience with the Nitto Terra Grappler or the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Commercial Traction.

How have they performed in the following situations:

Dry Highway
Wet Highway
Snow/Ice
Mud
Packed Trail
Towing

The Goodyear seems to have the lead in almost all categories, except perhaps noise level on the highway, but they are a bit more expensive. I may have a hook-up on the Goodyears that will bring them more in line with the Nittos though, so that may not end up being an issue.

The SLS and ACE packages add a nice degree of stability and I've been towing long enough that I know how to distribute the weight in the trailer such that it doesn't create excessive tongue weight or excessive tail weight.

I don't think that I will have any issues, as I've been towing with it occasionally for 7 years and have pulled motorcycles through the Smokey Mountains without problems.

However, once I make the suspension changes, I suppose it's possible that I will induce new and perhaps undesirable characteristics, so I will keep this in mind.

So far, based on my research and discussions with very knowledgeable Rover suspension guys, I think I'll actually improve some characteristics with my intended modifications.

Looks like you've done your due diligence. Just thought I'd throw that your way just to have it on your radar...even if the blip is on your periphery....keep forum readers posted on how you make out.

 

I loved my Terra Grapplers! They rolled very smooth on dry pavement without a lot of noise. Never had any issues with them in the rain. They were awesome in the snow! I never got my 2wd truck stuck in these west Michigan winters, and they performed great on packed snow. I never got into the mud with them, but I did take my truck to the dunes and trails. Not a single issue as long as you air down. I would definitely buy them again.

Bottom line - I totally recomend them!

 

Placed the order today for Goodyear DuraTrac LT 275/65/18's.

They are supposed to arrive next Tuesday...

Got the front OME HD Springs installed today along with the OME NiroCharger front and rear shocks and the OME Steering Damper...
