Like you I wanted to have the round light look because I think they suit the vehicle better, I certainly think it's more "classic" than a modern LED light bar. I ended up going for 4 7" black and red round LED lamps ($35 per pair on Amazon) which some may call it the cheap way out but:
1) Roof mounted lights are basically always illegal to run on the road, given how rarely I can actually run them off road at night I was OK forgoing a name brand, even if it meant a little less light (they are still plenty bright enough to do the job!).
2) LED's mean that I could get away with smaller gauge wire up to the roof which is nice. Mine draw 1.5amps each so a total running current of 6amps, WAY less than an incandescent or halogen bulb.
3) The red and black lamps match my red and black truck, so I think it looks good.

Definitely agree with the round headlights and you should try to go LED.
Greisinb is right, you want the smallest gauge wire you can use. It will be hard enough getting the wiring routed.
I tried a few kinds and ended up going with auxbeam. They are more expensive but Great quality and construction. Cheaper lights faded and hardware rusted very quickly. Auxbeam lights have been installed for nearly 2 years and look new still.
