Default Look what came out of my floormat...(dirt)

I put (dirt) in the title in case readers might think it was actually something awesome...perhaps a large preying mantis. Or a set of dentures. Maybe a snake or other reptile. But no...nothing that exciting.

Bought this 96 D1 a while back. The back seat floor mat backing and foam were rotten, torn and crumbling. I'm planning on replace it sometime, but thought I'd have a go at cleaning it.

I worked on it with a vac and a few wire brushes last night, and this is the result. I was actively scraping off the black stuff, but the amount of sand/dirt that came out surprised me.

After a bit more scraping and vacuming it looked great. No more shedding. Maybe I'll just tack some rubber backing on there to catch the dirt, and skip the replacement.

FYI...the stainless steel brush was the right tool here.

Kind of crazy that all that dirt could be stuck down in the carpet ibers and not even come out with the vacuum.

I should probably clarify. Technically, that is my dirt because I bought the truck...however it was grandfathered in, as they say.

Maybe I should also clarify the photo. You're looking at the back of the rug. The black on the ground is the scraped off foam and backing. The brown is the dirt/sand

Well, this is just the floor mat which sits on top of the carpet there. To remove the carpet, you'd have to remove the seats etc. Shouldn't be too bad though.
