Look what came out of my floormat...(dirt)

I put (dirt) in the title in case readers might think it was actually something awesome...perhaps a large preying mantis. Or a set of dentures. Maybe a snake or other reptile. But no...nothing that exciting.
Bought this 96 D1 a while back. The back seat floor mat backing and foam were rotten, torn and crumbling. I'm planning on replace it sometime, but thought I'd have a go at cleaning it.
I worked on it with a vac and a few wire brushes last night, and this is the result. I was actively scraping off the black stuff, but the amount of sand/dirt that came out surprised me.

After a bit more scraping and vacuming it looked great. No more shedding. Maybe I'll just tack some rubber backing on there to catch the dirt, and skip the replacement.
FYI...the stainless steel brush was the right tool here.

Well, this is just the floor mat which sits on top of the carpet there. To remove the carpet, you'd have to remove the seats etc. Shouldn't be too bad though.
