LPG Conversion for Disco 2
I am looking to convert my Disco 2 2001 to LPG. Does anyone know where I can get the kit in the US, or have any information on it? I've been searching online for the last day...
I thought about doing that conversion until I realized there would be nowhere to get propane while traveling away from home. Have you thought about how much of a range you get with a full tank of propane? I think when I looked into it, the propane was about the same cost as gasoline. I don't know if that is still the case.
My indy Rover mechanic told me it costs roughly $1500 to do the conversion. I've been seriously thinking about doing this for the last 3 or 4 months. Currently a gallon of 87 octane is $3.69. CNG is going for $1.59/gal. Also if you are concerned about locating filling stations my recommendation would be just to use your smart phone to look up locations. I know I use Google Maps everything I look for always finds the closest business that I'm looking for. Also I would imagine by now there are apps for your smart phone that are made for locating filling stations......iPhone, Android, Blackberry, etc....

I'd personally get CNG if you live in the states. It can be more difficult to come by but its much much cheaper since the US produces almost all natural gas it uses so no overhead.you get about the same efficiency as fuel at under $2/gal equivalent. Not sure if its the same as LPG but with CNG setups you can press a button even while driving and switch to your standard gas tank so fear of running out of fuel while away from a source goes away.
That is roughly $900USD, plus shipping which will be alot.
It is not worth the cost to convert, gas here in the US is still to cheap.
Plus you will be hard pressed to find a place to fill up.

I have looked into the conversion for my DII within the last year a few times. I currently have a place I can get LPG filled up within 5 miles from me, but other than that I was unaware of other places, and considering I often find myself driving or traveling 1000 miles a week at all different hours which might not work for the operating hours of the only place I know where to get LPG... Another snag I had was the fact I would have to install the new tank in my cargo area, that doesn't work with my space needed for my equipment... It seemed for me the only advantage of installing the kit would be to add additional miles since you can still use gasoline, just switching between the 2
One kit does not allow you to switch back and forth.
The other is more money and does allow the switch.
You could remove your fuel cell and have a custom tank built to hold 600 miles or more but any tank system you chose has to be dot approved= good luck with that lol
