Default LR Powersteering fluid, no alternatives?

Have a small leak, but the LR stuff is stupidly expensive. Is there any off the shelf stuff that can be used instead, or is this one of those don't use it and **** up the pump landrover engineering specials. I'm not going to bring it in for at least 2 weeks unless I get my tax refund in early to figure out what the issue is, hoping its a line and not the pump itself, otherwise I'll be driving aroudn without power steering hahaha

Any synthetic power steering fluid is a safe bet. I would stick with the LR stuff for the ACE system but the power steering system is just a simple pump and old-school steering box. I have seen plenty of posts about people running synthetic tranny fluid as well with good results. I'm actually running just plain old power steering fluid in mine right now after multiple pump replacements due to being sold defective remans. I will be switching over to synthetic tranny fluid soon.

I have used Valvoline Synthetic PS fluid, and Royal Purple, with good results. No problems.

If you're leaking from the pump itself, and not a hose, a rebuild kit is available for a lot less.

I use synthetic Royal Purple, even in my ACE system, and it works great...

Thanks for the info, I'll probably grab whatever of those are cheaper lol. I haven't had time to look to see where its comming from yet, I keep loosing the oppourtunity to bring it in to the shop, every other week we are having snow storms, and ever week in between is the paycheck that goes to the bills. i already had to dip into my motorcycle fund, so i dont think ill be riding this year

I have been using the cheap Power Steering fluid from the local auto parts since I bought my truck with 80K it now has 160K with all the original parts.
I just suck out the reservoir every couple years and refill.

Good to hear. Most Discovery 2 pumps don't go 80k period, let alone another 80k. Maybe I won't swap my bargain priced fluid out!

The way I do it is to flush it regularly.
I flush when it starts to get dirty.

The book that comes with the rigs says "cold weather climate Texaco" or equivalent power steering fluid. What ever that is? I use regular power steering fluid also...
