Default Maintenance

Okay, I have some issues. I bought all the fluids, but no one has 85w140 synthetic or 85w90. I have a new trans filter kit and Maxlife fluid for it. Dot4 brake fluid and Maxlife power steering fluid w/stop leak. Do I have to buy 8mm ignition wires or will high quality 7mm work? I bought E3 plugs, I had success with them in my 2008 Xterra OR, so I hope they would be fine. I bought them before I logged on here. Anyone know where I can buy the fluid locally or am I stuck buying online?

You can run conventional 85-140 in the t-case and diffs, but you'll need to change it more often. Some people change it every year as part of maintenance/or after they go wading.

You can also get mobil 1 75-140 synthetic. It's a pretty common gear oil that you should be able to get just about anywhere. That's what I run in my diff's.

8mm ignition wires are highly recommended because of the high temperatures under our hoods. I got my Magnecor's from ApexPerformance.net for $85.90. There's another popular brand that the guys on here like to use too, but I can't think of the name right now.

As for the fluids, you can run 75w90 in your differentials/tcase as well. You can always try looking for that in the stores if you want to save on shipping.

If you were able to buy the Valvoline Maxlife stuff, see if your store carries or can order Valvoline Synthetic 75W90 (VAL975). I run this in my diffs and transfer case and it works well. Bought it from NAPA and they had it in stock.

I have plenty of 75w140 Royal Purple, from the Xterra, that I never got to use.

I've purchased and used the Kingsborne 8MM wires and am very happy. The price of $35.00 is great as well. IGN 790 Kingsborne Spark Plug Wires Ignition Wire Set - Kingsborne Ignition Spark Plug Wires Sets made in the USA

I use STI wires and have not had any problems. I just replaced the seal on my t-case this weekend and refilled with mobil-1 75w-90. I had trouble finding other weights as well. Ended up going with what I could find in synthetic.

Can I use 75w140 in the T-case or just get some 75w90. Will I need to remove anything to get to the coil packs, of can it be done without removing anything?

I personally would use the Royal Purple you have left over. I used, I think... Mobil 1 synthetic 70w-140 in my diffs. and they don't make any noise at all. In fact they make LESS noise than when I first bought the truck. I also used 85w-140 in my transfer case and that is totally silent now. I also couldn't find synthetic so I just bought conventional gear oil. It's probably a good idea to change it once a year anyway. A couple quarts of that a year is dirt cheap and as Spike555 says "cheap insurance" and he would know, look at how many miles he's got on his Rover!!!

The easiest way to get to the coil packs is to remove the plenum chamber. That's what I did and I have NO IDEA how anyone does this job without removing it, there is NO room in there. You can get the gasket for the intake (or plenum, same thing) from D.A.P. for something like $12 I think and it makes it WAY easier. also they have the intake heater that loves to leak for somewhere around $30 if you haven't replaced that yet. (Just a suggestion) Good luck man.
And yes, you can run that in your T-Case, it will work perfectly.
