It is common for the heating elements to short out and cause a fire.

this is true, I saw one on the side of the road a few months ago the interior was blazing.

How common is "common?" If this was really common I'd think there'd have been a recall. Is this an issue for both D1s and D2s?

That said, I can at least pull the relays for March-December.

How "common" is the broken heating element breaking and shorting out and starting a fire?
All depends on how heavy the user is and how hard they are on the seat I guess.
