Default momentary loss of power

so on my way to work this morning as i was driving along at about 55 my rover felt like it lost power for a few seconds... just kinda dropped down about 1000rpms... then with out me giving it any more throttle it went back up... it had done this sunday also, exact same thing... any ideas what this may be? 97 disco 1 with 154000 miles...

VSS
Vehicle Speed Sensor, it is the govenor for the truck, when it goes bad it cuts engine power to slow you down. It is common on DI's for it to go bad, discoweb.org has a good write up on it on their tech page.
This is assuming that all else is good of course.

My truck did something similar a few weeks ago, and I traced it back to the tranny. Did a flush and refill and all is fine now. Try checking your fluid too.

Gotta love cheap quick fixes

Def new VSS time. It will get worse too. My disco would get so bad that it would buck and surge and I couldnt even drive it over 35-40mph. New VSS cured it. Also make sure the VSS harness isnt melted from exhaust heat, mine was laying on the exhaust when I bought it,so the covering melted to the wiring inside (probably the main issue). VSS is held in by one allen bolt (3/16ths).

Yup, thats it.
Call the dealer and see how much they want for one, and then ask them how much they want to mail it to you, it might be cheaper.
