Question 1: Should I have any issues taking a Disco II with 110k drove in Texas its lifespan up to Colorado. Not the drive itself but once I am in Colorado due to the High Altitude.

Reason for question: I previously had a Subaru when I lived in Colorado. The Army moved me to Texas so I brought my Subaru with me. The Subaru had 190k on it. It made the drive down there fine which I wasn't worried about, but once I got to Texas I immediately had an idling problem. I spent $800 replacing parts and it still didn't fix it. I drove it the way it was until I sold it.

Question 2: Is it better to purchase a vehicle in the state or same altitude that you will be driving it in?

Reason for question 2: It is cheaper purchase a Disco II in Texas. I think that is the case due to 4x4 is not as important to have there.

 

Was the Subaru fuel injected also? I was under the impression that altitude was not an issue with FI, because the FI was always monitoring and adjust fuel/air mixtures.

 

DiscoMike lives in Denver I believe and seems to have no issues. It is not any different than any of the other Fuel Injected vehicles being driven there. The ECU reads all these conditions and adjusts as needed. Lots of great places to exercise your Disco there also.

 

I was out in CO a few weeks ago, and it seemed like every other car we passed was a Disco. So they must do okay out there.

 

I think your subaru was just a flake, modern vehicles will not be affected by altitude - other than some performance loss in higher altitudes. Older vehicles with carbs would require some fiddling with jets.

 

drowssap - yes my subaru was fuel injected but like the others said it was old.. 'thanks every one for your help! I can't wait to get back home and have some fun with it!

 

Oh yeah.. I also wanted to ask if there were any specific parts that I should ask the seller if they have replaced?.. most likely the vehicle will have 110k or so on it. I want to know common problems i should be expecting at that kind of mileage.

Check out Denver CL for asking prices and see if they're higher than in Texas. As has been said, there will be no problems bringing it to the altitude here. Just know that any vehicle will suffer a performance loss when you get up in the 5 digit altitudes - and an underpowered fatty like a Disco will feel it more! Best I can pull is 55mph on the highway when climbing the real steep, high altitude passes.
